103.00 – VACATIONS 1. Members shall consult the applicable section of the City Employee Handbook for specific details of the various types of leave approved by the city. 2. Any member determined to be absent without proper authorization shall be subject to disciplinary action. 3. No leave shall be taken until approved by the member's shift commander. 4. Shift commanders shall have the authority to approve or disapprove all forms of leave based on a member's leave balance and the department's minimum staffing needs. 5. Minimum staffing levels for each shift shall also be established. The staffing level shall be communicated to all affected members. Shift Commanders may not schedule leave if granting the leave will result in the shift's working below minimum staffing level. 6. All vacation days will be 24 hour shifts. 7. Vacation will be selected for each crew by seniority, regardless of rank. 8. No member will be allowed to take a vacation day with less then one (l) year of service. 9. No member will be allowed to take more vacation time than has been accrued at the time the vacation is to be taken. 10. Each member will be responsible for keeping track of the vacation time they have accrued. 11. If a member takes more time than they have accrued, their pay will be deducted the appropriate time, and the member will be subject to disciplinary action. 12. No more than two (2) members will be allowed to schedule vacation on anyone shift. 13. No member will be allowed to take more than 7 shifts of vacation on the first round of selections. After everyone (who is eligible) on the seniority list has made their selections, the list will then be open for members to select additional shifts (as long as they do not exceed the hours they have accrued). 14. Once a member selects a shift for vacation, they will only be allowed to cancel if that shift is on an "open day" (You are the only person on vacation that shift) |
